In the first part of "How did online dating got into history" we described in a summarily manner the beginnings of online dating, promising a come-back with answers on questions like how did online dating go so current and become used by so many, making it the subject of this article. We often stumble over things or people and try to remember how they infiltrated themselves in our daily routine.
Well, with online dating it all started like this... It was around the year of '95 when the first site of online dating "Match.com", went live as a free beta. It started in '94 as a proof-of-concept, aiming the provision of advertised systems for newspapers. It was first profiled in Wired Magazine in '95, starting so the advertising of online dating.
In the year of '00, Match.com's then CEO tried expanding into the dating scene with the MatchLive service, sponsoring a location for users to actual date but it was scrapped by the parent company. By the year of '04 Guinness World Records recognized it as being the largest online dating site in the world, with more than 42 million registered people since the launch. In late '05, the site got into a partnership with Dr. Phil on an US marketing campaign known under the name of "MindFindBind", thus expanding its territory over the most powerful source of advertising. In December '06, Match.com's appearance was changed so that it matches the new black and white T.V. add series featuring Match.com members.
Thus, the concept of virtual identities, virtual match-making and general online dating grew into our lives, minds and needs, along with the growth of Internet itself.
Match.com is merely the model of all the sites that came after and within every speaking moment. Just now, the popularity of online dating is already far away from being understandable, bringing in new benefits with every passing jiff. As an example:
- Original chat services have been taken to the next level: webcam chat-rooms
- Online dating services have been so much developed that you can now simply go on a video date online
- Online dating Magazine, allowing you like so many other things you find online, to get more acquainted and stay up to date with all the tips and news of online dating
- Mobile Dating which is a new-found use of the mobiles and their first intention of communication
However they did it, the true fact is that we got more or less dependent to this media product, growing custom with it and even considering it a part of our life and I here refer myself to those who sadly haven't found that special someone yet. Yet means that you either have to start thinking outside the box and start searching online as well, if you haven't done this, or just keep searching until you reach the aim of every living being, that of perpetuating and finding your soul mate.
In the last part of our article trilogy "How online dating got into history" we take a closer peep at the economical strength behind online dating sites.
