It's a common complaint as you can tell by just visiting some message boards and forums. Online dating site A promised this, that and the other thing when the person signed up. Now after a year or more, they have not delivered. The individuals that the person did try to connect with were rejects. They were too needy, too incompatible, flat out boring or amazingly vulgar and frightfully stupid.
Whatever the reason, every potential cyber dating candidate has flunked and that person is trying to restrain their urge to sue the internet dating site and get their money back. Whether they do or don't the message is clear: Avoid online dating with the obligatory "it's all a scam" thrown in for good measure.
So do they have a legitimate beef? Given each individual's online experience the answer is yes. There are no iron clad promises when it comes to dating and relationships. That goes for cyberspace and the online world. You can walk into a bar or a nightclub everyday for a year that is packed with potential dating partners and not meet one person that is to your liking.
The reason that many people get very impatient with internet dating is for the exact reason they joined. The seemingly unlimited supply of would be suitors. It's easy to assume that if an internet dating service which is boasting about having millions of members and thousands of people registering everyday that you could meet one decent person.
According to surveys only ten percent of online dating participants get a response to their profile. When it comes to turning that into a relationship the figure drops to about five percent.
So why the dismal numbers?
The Profile
Or in many cases the lack of one. Many people do not even make the effort to fill out the profile completely or for that matter even upload a picture. You can visit many a dating site and see the anonymous logo instead of an actual photo. If they do fill out the profile it's so general that it still does not give a person any idea in who they may be dealing with. Sadly, in some instances the people writing the best profiles are scam artists from Nigeria.
Cruising
Besides not filling out the profile, there are a lot of people who are not looking for anything but a one night stand. Posting your photo is a red flag telling them, it's okay to practice their dirty talk on you. Their idea of a relationship and yours are two different things.
A Woman's World
Let's face it the ratio of men to women when it comes to online dating is way out of whack. That means women can be a lot more choosy in who they decide to go out with. It also means they have to take more time separating the possibles from the no way no hows. That's a pretty daunting task.
For men it's like standing in a crowd of thousands all wearing white shirts trying to get noticed by an airplane flying eight miles above. This reason alone should be the clearest indicator as to why it is essential to fill out a profile completely and make it interesting without exaggerating a.k.a. lying.
In spite of all the hard luck stories you may have come across (many of them all too true), internet dating online is booming. Maybe the tough economic times are driving more people to meet that special someone online. Or the trend lines just happened to be moving that way. The bottom line is web dating is growing by leaps and bounds which means that people are having success and there is no reason why you cannot be a member of that group.
